Sirente Velino Regional Park
The Regional Park extends over 60 000 hectares, bordered by Lazio to the west and south with the Fucino Conca. Inside the park are the mountain and the Velino massif Sirente.
The geological structure of these mountains rise to karst phenomena, such as the Caves of Stiffe, traveled from a river amongst them that gives rise to waterfalls and lakes.
The flora of the park consists of beech forests, forests of oak, hornbeam blacks, maples and dwarf juniper. A spring meadows with large blooms of daffodils, bluebells and gentian.
Even in this park are Apennine wolves, wild cats, martens, badgers, foxes, golden eagles and peregrine falcons.
In the park there are centers of great historical interest such as the castles of Celano and Ocre and interest such as archaeological excavations of Alba Fucens.
